Net Pay
Take-home pay after all deductions have been subtracted from gross pay.
Net pay is the amount an employee receives in their paycheck after all deductions have been subtracted from gross pay. Net pay is also referred to as "take-home pay."
Deductions that reduce gross pay to net pay include: mandatory deductions (federal income tax withholding, state income tax withholding, FICA taxes) and voluntary deductions (health insurance premiums, dental and vision premiums, 401(k) contributions, HSA/FSA contributions, life insurance premiums, garnishments).
Employers are required to provide employees with a pay stub or earnings statement showing gross pay, each deduction, and net pay for each pay period. Many states have specific requirements about what information must be included on pay stubs.
