FSA
Flexible Spending Account — allows employees to set aside pre-tax dollars for eligible medical or dependent care expenses.
A Flexible Spending Account (FSA) is an employer-sponsored benefit that allows employees to set aside pre-tax dollars to pay for eligible healthcare or dependent care expenses. FSAs are established through Section 125 cafeteria plans.
Health FSAs can be used for qualified medical expenses including copays, deductibles, prescriptions, dental care, and vision care. The 2025 health FSA contribution limit is $3,300. Dependent care FSAs can be used for eligible childcare and adult dependent care expenses, with a $5,000 annual limit.
FSAs have a "use it or lose it" rule — funds not used by the end of the plan year (or grace period) are forfeited. Some plans offer a rollover option of up to $640 (2025 limit) or a 2.5-month grace period.
